Smart phones required for entry?!

Dear Editor,

I recently had a terrible experience trying to get in to the Giants Causeway visitor centre. It took nearly 20 minutes with queues a mile long. You can't pay with cash or on a card machine; it all has to be done online on my phone, I was told at the entry desk.

First, you have to download an NT-approved app that scans QR barcodes (the one already installed on my phone was not 'approved'). You then have to scan the NT barcode and up comes a page asking for all your personal information which MUST be filled in. Next, they want your bank sort code and account number in order to make a purchase. I was not happy, but I obliged. I purchased a single adult ticket. I refused to do gift aid as it would have taken even longer. My bank needed to send me a security code in order for the purchase to be completed. Eventually it was texted to me, the code submitted and the transaction completed.

It was a nightmare. What happens when visitors do not have a smart phone with them? Are they refused entry? I was really angry.
