National Trust destroys decades-old Bassenthwaite grassland

The National Trust accidentally ploughed grassland near Bassenthwaite in the Lake District, destroying an important natural habitat which contained decades-old waxcap mushrooms.

Conservationists say the mushrooms indicated that the land had been untouched for years.

The National Trust intended to rewild the field.
