Concern over National Trust's Changing Focus

Hi 'Restore Trust’

I didn’t renew my membership after a less than constructive debate with the National Trust's Head of Member & Supporter Sevices. Here is a part sample:

"………….Upon checking, I discovered that the founders of the Trust created it to promote the, “permanent preservation for the benefit of the Nation of lands and tenements (including buildings) of beauty or historic interest”. Their clear intention was to focus on keeping the land and properties in proper repair and maintaining them as places where people can come and visit and enjoy the benefits of nature and those beautiful buildings.

I can find no evidence that there was ever any intention to create a circus, an entertainment, so in my opinion the NT have allowed “creep” into areas that are political and were never part of the original intention of the founders. In fact, it appears to me that the NT is now acting beyond its remit and beyond the scope of its charitable aims. Resources are then inevitably diverted from the original objectives of the National Trust, which I think is unforgivable, so regrettably I do not accept either your explanation or viewpoint……….."

I resigned, I think before the Chair of the NT stood down,

Good luck with your campaign.

Kind regards
