Dear Editor,

On my day off this week I visited Felbrigg Hall, Norfolk, which I’ve known well for many years. A notice announced that this was National Trust Pride Week: rainbow-coloured ribbons were threaded through the railings outside the stables, and in the very fine garden an arch of rainbow-coloured balloons had been erected. I thought the NT had learned its lesson at Felbrigg: obviously not. Surely the Trust exists to conserve, not to annoy visitors with its social and political opinions?
